Skin Care - Microdermabrasion Side Effects

Skin Care - Microdermabrasion Side Effects
Patients and doctors alike consider microdermabrasion side effects is considered one of the safest, non-invasive cosmetic procedures. There are, however, still some side effects or risks associated with microdermabrasion that you should take into consideration.

Redness
After undergoing a microdermabrasion procedure, you may experience redness as if you spent a few hours in the sun. This is a natural effect of the gentle exfoliation of dead cells during the microdermabrasion procedure. This will naturally disappear within the day or even a few hours after your treatment.

Bruising
Because of the mild pressure that is applied on your skin when you are being treated, your skin might experience bruising. However, this is rare and when it does occur, it only occurs mildly. And just as with the side effect of redness, the bruising will subside within the day.

Increased Sensitivity
Microdermabrasion also causes increased sensitivity or photosensitivity of the skin because it is a skin resurfacing procedure. Therefore, it is not recommended that you undergo this treatment if you are taking medication that already makes your skin hypersensitive to external factors.

Contamination of Eyes with Crystals
There are remote cases of crystals scattering from the machine or the wand used for microdermabrasion procedures. Sometimes the crystals may find their way into your eyes. This can cause tears or infections in the eye if you scratch your eye while it is contaminated with crystals.
